God is in Control
Materials:           bucket with a handle and a pitcher of water
          Scripture:           Psalm 111:7; 2 Thessalonians 3:3
Have you seen someone use a bucket to do chores around the house? (Show children the bucket.) Your mom may use a bucket to mop the kitchen floor or maybe your dad uses a bucket to wash the car. Watch what happens when I put water into this bucket (pour the pitcher of water into the bucket) and I swing it back and forth (swing the bucket back and fourth until the arch becomes higher and higher). Now watch carefully as I swing the bucket over my head. (Continue swinging the bucket until it makes a complete circle.)
We can learn a really neat truth about God from the movement of this bucket of water. Gravity and the pull of my arm cause the water in the bucket to move in a circular direction and the water won’t spill out of the bucket. Boys and girls, I can trust the laws of gravity and the circular motion to keep the water from leaving the bucket and getting me wet. God the Creator created gravity. He controls gravity and without it we would not be able to walk here on earth—instead we would just float off into space. Isn’t it great to know that God is in control of gravity?
If you know Jesus as your Savior you can thank God that He is in control of gravity and your life. You can thank Him that He created our earth just right so you can live and walk and play and enjoy Him! God is in control of everything that happens to you—good or bad. Just as the law of gravity will never change, God will never change. Each time you see a bucket of water will you use it to remind you that God is in control and then will you thank Him for this fact?
